How drying time is estimated
Under the IICRC S500 standard, the drying team classes a loss by how much water was absorbed and how dense the wet materials are. Class 1 and 2 losses usually dry in three to five days; Class 3 and 4 take longer. A wet slab adds days, because concrete gives up water slowly and dries mostly from the top.
Weather plays a part. Dry inland air helps evaporation for much of the year, while a run of winter storms raises indoor humidity and makes the dehumidifiers work harder. Starting late matters most of all, because water keeps wicking into drywall and framing until extraction begins.
The real finish line is the reading: wet materials within 2 to 4 points of a dry reference in the same house. The structural drying page explains how that is measured, and the EPA indoor air quality pages cover why indoor moisture matters.
